Turning Point, an established media ministry with a vast audience, required a significant overhaul of its website and backend infrastructure to improve user engagement and content accessibility. This project aimed to create a high-functioning, modular backend system that could support their growing digital content library, streamline updates, and improve site-wide performance.

Project Kickoff

Turning Point required a user-friendly and technically sound website to support their outreach efforts and manage high volumes of multimedia content. I was responsible for creating a more accessible, visually cohesive digital space that aligned with their mission and technical requirements.

Strategy and Research

This project focused on optimizing the user journey and structuring content efficiently to support a growing online ministry.

  1. Defining Project Goals
    Collaborated with stakeholders to set concrete goals: enhancing site navigation, improving the presentation of multimedia content, and facilitating seamless online donations.
  2. User Research & Audience Insights
    Conducted extensive user research to establish clear user personas and develop user journey maps, ensuring design and development efforts prioritized content accessibility, ease of navigation, and optimized media playback.
  3. Code Architecture & Content Strategy
    Using ASP.NET and C# we aimed to simplify backend operations, focusing on modular content blocks for dynamic updates. The strategy enabled staff to easily manage and publish new content, while users experienced a streamlined, organized interface to access sermons, devotionals, and ministry resources.
  4. Usability Testing & Iterative Design
    Organized iterative usability tests, gathering feedback to inform design adjustments and identify necessary development optimizations. Testing sessions focused on layout clarity, accessibility, and the intuitiveness of navigation, guiding refinements that made the site more approachable, particularly for an older demographic.

Design & Development

The goal was to create a highly responsive, technically optimized platform that effectively supported Turning Point’s digital ministry.

  1. UI/UX Design
    Developed a clean, engaging interface that adhered to accessibility standards, including large, readable fonts, clear navigation, and bold calls-to-action. Design consistency across pages established a cohesive user experience that encouraged engagement with Turning Point’s resources.
  2. Advanced Web Development
    • Responsive Design: Implemented responsive design principles to ensure compatibility across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices, preserving visual integrity and functionality for users on various platforms.
    • Efficient Coding Practices: Utilized modular CSS and JavaScript to streamline updates and enhance page loading speed, ensuring quick response times for high-traffic periods, such as during live-streamed events.
    • Optimized Media Management: Configured server-side optimizations to support high volumes of media content, including video and audio, ensuring seamless streaming experiences for users.
    • Content Modularity: Built reusable components for recurring sections (e.g., devotionals, sermons), enabling easy content updates without disrupting the site’s structure or requiring extensive technical adjustments.
  3. Customization & Backend Enhancements
    Built a customized content management system structure that streamlined content uploads, categorization, and scheduling. Custom configurations allowed Turning Point’s content managers to quickly update material, minimizing downtime and keeping the audience engaged with fresh, timely content.
  4. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) & Accessibility
    • SEO Best Practices: Integrated SEO best practices, including optimized metadata, structured data, and keyword-rich headings, to improve search visibility and drive organic traffic.
    • Accessibility Features: Implemented ARIA labels, keyboard navigation, and screen reader compatibility, enhancing the website’s accessibility for users with disabilities and meeting WCAG standards.
  5. Brand Consistency & Visual Cohesion
    Developed a unified design system that solidified Turning Point’s brand through consistent color schemes, typography, and layout patterns. This cohesive design supported both user engagement and brand recognition.

Bringing the Design to Life

After finalizing the design and development roadmap, I led the technical build and implementation phase to translate the vision into a fully operational digital experience.

Custom Backend System & Data Management: Built a modular backend system with ASP.NET and C#, specifically designed to handle Turning Point’s high volume of content. This custom framework ensured efficient content retrieval and provided seamless access to archived sermons and resources, while streamlining backend management for future growth.

Front-End Development: Interactive User Experience: Developed responsive front-end interactions, such as hover effects, expandable sections, and multimedia toggles, to enhance content exploration and guide users intuitively through the site.Scalable Framework: Constructed the front end with a scalable architecture, enabling straightforward updates and adaptability to future needs without requiring foundational rework.

Backend Optimization & API Integrations: Optimized Database Structure: Enhanced the database schema to improve retrieval times, particularly beneficial for peak traffic events. Third-Party Integrations: Implemented API connections for CRM, analytics, and social media platforms, creating a cohesive data flow that bolsters both the user experience and operational functionality.


Results & Highlights
